Energy Legal Practice ("ELP") is an international, legal practice which mainly specialises in the energy/oil and gas sectors. ELP provides:

  • legal advice, drafting and negotiating of agreements and support to businesses as they explore for, develop and produce hydrocarbons as well as alternative sources of fuel and energy; and

  • assistance to clients as they seek to establish themselves in the energy sector or further develop existing ventures whether alone, in collaboration with others or in multiple jurisdictions.

ELP has a presence in Abu Dhabi, London and Cairo and operates internationally.

It is registered in the Abu Dhabi Global Market ("ADGM") and the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development ("DED").

ELP’s primary focus is supporting stakeholders based in the Middle East and/or in other oil and gas producing countries and regions in Asia and Africa.

Akmal Abbas, a practicing lawyer and a member of the Egyptian Bar Association, is the principal and managing lawyer of ELP.  He has unparalleled experience of Middle Eastern, Asian and African jurisdictions having spent the last 18 years based in and working out of Abu Dhabi.

ELP also has legal consultants, based in the UK who also have extensive experience working as lawyers in the energy/oil and gas industry. They have deep and unique skills developed from years of experience practicing as lawyers in major international oil companies supporting a range of activities such as access deals, the creation of operational and governance structure agreements, advising on regulatory matters and dispute management.

ELP also works alongside local law firms with rights of audience before the courts of the UAE and other Middle Eastern countries augmenting the dispute management support it can offer to its clients.

ELP has a wide and diverse network of oil & gas professionals hailing from commercial and technical disciplines (such as geotechnical, sub-surface and engineering) who can provide expert advice in support of project-led activity as well as dispute resolution.
